Cannot set Outlook Express as default mail handler
I am trying to set outlook express as my default mail handler. I have gone into OE to change it to my default but my applied change does not stick. In OE, I select OE as my default email handler, I then click apply & then close. For some reason, my applied change is not being retained.

I use Outlook Express for e-mail. Under "tools/options/general/default messaging programs", I click the "Make Default" button. The change appears to be accepted; the text next to the button says "this application is the default Mail handler". However, the change does not stick, regardless of whether I click "Apply"

OK, obviously Win2000 DOES have a default mail program - it's Outlook Express. I have six W2K machines here, five of them running OE just fine for email and one running Eudora. But on one of the OE machines, and only one, the mailto: function bombs in IE, reporting instead that there is no default mail handler.

The default Mail and News Reader is an Outlook Express replacement called Windows Mail. Mail works. I can read News. I cannot post News. The netnews accounts are set up in identical fashion, I'm not buying a MAC :-) I might, grudgingly, get a different News/Mail handler but it seems like this one ought to work.
